Virtual Concert Behind-the-Scenes

To create our upcoming virtual concert, we have been using a platform called Soundtrap. In our Tuesday night Zoom meetings, we get specific instructions, marked scores, and recorded performances to use as reference. We are able to sing with everyone’s mic muted and rehearse under Dr. Dan’s leadership.

After a few meetings rehearsing a portion of our repertoire, all of our singers are on their own! Dan creates a Soundtrap “project” for each piece on our program. Each singer logs into the project and records their own part, singing along with a guide track, a commercial recording, or another singer who’s already recorded a track.

Once everyone has contributed their track to a project–and Dan sets us strict deadlines!–Dan picks it up from there. He aligns all the tracks rhythmically, places voices just like he would if we were in person, adjusts the volume of each voice to create a good balance within each section and across the choir, and works to give the final mix the right “atmosphere” for the piece.

Soundtrap is an audio-only platform, so our recorded performances will be complemented by art, other visuals, and related readings to form the video you’ll be able to see……starting November 22, 3:00 pm. $10 tickets are available now on the platform that will host our video: https://seattlebachchoir.anywhereseat.com/
