Welcome to the Seattle Bach Choir

Founded in 1984 by Wallace Golecke, the Seattle Bach Choir began with a focus on Baroque music, especially J.S. Bach. Its repertoire later expanded from medieval to contemporary works. Under current artistic director Daniel Mahraun, the choir maintains this breadth while renewing emphasis on Bach, his contemporaries, his influences, and composers inspired by him.

Our goal is to present high-quality, accessible performances of beautiful and significant—and, sometimes, seldom-performed—music. We rehearse in northeast Seattle and welcome singers to consider joining our group of roughly 30 members via our audition process.

2025-26 Season

The three concerts of our current season Gods (November 2025), Myths(March 2026), and A Martyr (June 2026) include a wide array of music from Bach, Handel, Brahms, and Beethoven to Lars-Erik Larsson and Dan Locklair. More information about all three can be found on the events page.

Events and Music Samples

A Martyr: Looking back at the Civil War and looking ahead in fear at WWII, Florence Price’s seldom-heard masterwork Abraham Lincoln Walks at Midnight sets Vachel Lindsay’s poem of the same name. Period memorial music from 1865, songs composed immediately upon Lincoln’s death, complete the program. More information is on the events page.

Check out recordings from our past concerts on the samples page.
